Addressing Health Inequalities Intervention in Regions

AIR Project is an ENRICH (network of European Regions and Local Authorities working together to improve health and healthcare through an active cooperation with each other) network answer to the call for proposals from the Directorate General for 'Health and Consumers' (DG SANCO). The project addresses the health taking into account inequalities, in the present context the unequal access to the primary care.
The main objective of the AIR project is to develop a set of tools to help reducing health inequalities in primary care settings in the European regions.

Primary care is considered to be the corner stone of the comprehensive programmes of prevention and medical care for improving a population’s health and therefore this is a prime target for tackling inequalities in health. Reducing the social and health inequalities is one of the major tasks of public health and it is a clear priority for the European Union’s health programme as well. In this context, the European Union implementation of new actions on public health for the period 2008-2013 is focused beside others on the objective of strengthening and developing the information and knowledge of health. The European Union will support the exchange of knowledge and best practices to gather skills and essential information scattered in the Member States, and also to monitor the health of EU citizens and will continue to provide tools, indicators and instruments for disseminating relevant and useful information to citizens.
To meet these objectives, the European Union is developing different tools and the AIR project will contribute to this action and will significantly assist EU Member States and their regions in their efforts to tackle health inequalities.

The specific goals of AIR are identification of the most effective practices in reducing inequalities and to establish a list of relevant actions and policies thus assisting policy makers in improving their health policies. Ultimately the results of the project will be widely publicised across the EU regions using different strategies for dissemination.

Dekut is a work package leader of the evaluation process and furthermore participates in all project activities. We are responsible for the AIR project’s internal formative and summative evaluation process as evaluation manager. Dekut also hosts the last workshop meeting for project participants in April 2012.
